The Conference, held every three years, sees international specialists in injury and illness prevent meet to share their latest findings and collaborate on how best to protect athletes health, both in and out of competition.

The Conference in the South Korean capital will see a series of keynote lectures and workshops and allow for experts to meet and the IOC believe that in the past 10 years there has been a significant increase in research across the field.

It is estimated that 1,500 doctors, 120 speakers and 40 IOC members will be present at the three-day Conference, scheduled to take place from June 1 to 3 in 2017.

Following the Conference in Seoul, a three day advanced team physician course is set to be held in Pyeongchang, hosts of the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, allowing team officials to increase their knowledge and practice of medicine with a year to go until the Games.

The Korean Society of Sports Medicine will host the Conference in Seoul and believe that domestic experts will benefit, with the conference being held in Asia for the first time.

The last IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport was held last year at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Registrations for the Conference are due to open at the end of 2015.
