It came a week after he was elected at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires to replace Jacques Rogge and become the ninth President of the Olympic Movement.

Bach had flown to Switzerland last night after officially resigning from a number of positions in Germany, including as President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The 59-year-old lawyer held a series of meetings with several heads of department at the IOC offices on the banks of Lake Geneva. 

He also held talks with Rogge and these will continue as the two work on ensuring an orderly transfer of power.

An official ceremonial handover is planned to take place at the newly renovated Olympic Museum in Lausanne on December 10, which will coincide with Bach chairing his first meeting of the IOC's ruling Executive Board.

Before then, Bach will make his first official trip as head of the IOC on September 29 to Olympia in Greece for the lighting of the Olympic Flame for next year's Winter Games in Sochi.

Like Rogge, Bach will be a full-time unpaid volunteer President and will live in the Palace Hotel in the centre of Lausanne.

He will take over the same apartment used by his predecessor as well as the late Juan Antonio Samaranch when he served as President.
