CAS is an international quasi-judicial body established in 1984 to settle disputes related to sport, currently led by Australia's International Olympic Committee vice-president John Coates.

While it is perhaps best known in an Olympic sense for the Ad-Hoc Committees set up to address disputes during an Olympic Games and other major sporting events, it also tackles a variety of other cases, including those involving National Olympic Committees.

Its main headquarters are located in New York, Sydney and Lausanne.
