The Commonwealth Games Federation are set to remain in London - at least for now - after finding new headquarters ©CGF April 7 - The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) are preparing to move to new headquarters in London later this year with interviews to find a new chief executive set to be held soon in Dubai, insidethegames can reveal.

CGF President Prince Tunku Imran dropped controversial plans earlier this year to relocate the offices to Kuala Lumpur.

But the CGF still have to move because its lease on its current offices at a building in Piccadilly owned by EON Productions, the film production company that makes the James Bond movies, is due to expire in July.

They will now move to a location in Old Street in Shoreditch and base themselves at offices run by CAN Mezzanine, a company which provides affordable office space exclusively for the social sector.

The CGF's six full-time staff based in London are expected to move in June so they are in situ and fully operational by the time Glasgow 2014 opens on July 23.

Tunku withdrew his plan to move the CGF out of London - the organisation's home since it was founded in 1932 - after his initial proposal was criticised by several countries, particularly those from Africa.

He has now commissioned an independent report to find out whether the CGF should remain in London or whether it would benefit financially and operationally from relocating.

It has been claimed that it save the CGF £925,000 ($1.4 million/€1.1 million) if they moved from the British capital.

The findings out oft the independent report are due to be presented at the CGF General Assembly before Glasgow 2014.

It is also planned to have announced the appointment of a new chief executive by then to replace Mike Hooper, who is due to step down on August 22 after 14 years in charge.

First interviews have already taken place and the shortlisted candidates for the £165,000 ($274,000/€199,000) per year job are due to face the full CGF Board at a meeting in Dubai on June 5.

Dubai was chosen for the meeting because of its central location and good transport links.
