Toronto 2015 has urged fans to snap up seats with the ticket window due to temporarily close on March 9 ©Toronto 2015/FacebookToronto 2015 is urging fans to snap up tickets for the Pan American Games before sales temporarily close on March 9 until mid-April.

Tickets for the Opening Ceremony have already sold out, as well as those for other popular events, including the men's basketball and soccer gold medal finals, and track cycling, with nearly 300,000 tickets gone so far.

Seats are still available, however, at the Closing Ceremony, track and field events, swimming and rugby among others ahead of the sales closure, which will see tickets for the Parapan American Games being available from March 23.

All tickets to both the Pan and Parapan American Games will then be on sale by mid-April.

Canadian track and field legend Donovan Bailey, a five-time world and Olympic champion, encouraged fans to take up the chance to see some of the world's best athletes compete in Toronto.

"Events like the Pan Am Games are special in the life of all athletes," said Bailey, the former world record holder for the 100 metres.

"I am particularly excited for the Canadian athletes competing in the Toronto 2015 Games this year, because the rare opportunity of being in front of a roaring home crowd is so motivating, making them feel that all the training and preparation are worth it."

Toronto 2015 tickets start at $20 (£10/$16/€14), with 75 per cent of tickets priced $45 (£23/$35/€32) and under, while half price tickets are available for those aged 16 years old and under or those 65 and over.

Every event ticket also allows the holder to access transit on the day of the event.

Canadian rugby player Kelly Russell spoke of her excitement about potentially competing in front of a home crowd.

"I think that it would be a very proud and exciting feeling to be able to play in front of our home crowd for the Pan Am Games," she added.

"It will make for a wonderful opportunity to showcase and introduce our sport to new households across the country and beyond.

"We receive so much support from our family and friends, yet a lot of them have never seen us play in person so that will be a special moment for both us and them."

Tickets can be purchased online at toronto2015.org/tickets or by phone on +1.855.726.2015 and internationally at +1.949.333.4824.

The Pan American Games are due to take place from July 10 to 26, while the Parapan American Games follow on from August 7 to 15.
