The venue, located at York University, will be known as the Canadian Tennis Centre during the Games, which will see 48 men and 32 women competing across five events - men's and women's singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles.

"We're pleased to confirm the Canadian Tennis Centre will host the best Pan American tennis players at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games," said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of Toronto 2015.

"This is a world-class facility and the action here will be incredible next summer during the Games."

The Centre is home to national governing body Tennis Canada and hosts the Canada Masters tournament on both the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour and the Women's Tennis Association Tour.

Built in 2004, the Rexall Centre has 12 courts with the main court holding 12,500 spectators.

"Tennis is becoming increasingly popular in Canada, driven in large part by the recent successes of Canadian players on the international stage," commented President and chief executive of Tennis Canada, Kelly D Murumets.

"It's exciting to build on that momentum and continue to grow the sport here in Canada by hosting the 2015 Pan American Games - a key international tennis event, especially for up-and-coming tennis stars."

Tennis has been port of the Pan American Games programme at every Games apart from Cali, Colombia in 1971.

At Guadalajara 2011, Colombia secured two gold medals in the form of men's singles champion Robert Farah, who also partnered Juan Sebastián Cabal to men's doubles gold.

American Irina Falconi claimed the women's singles title, while Argentinian duo María Irigoyen and Florencia Molinero took women's doubles gold.

The mixed doubles was won by Ana Paula de la Peña and Santiago González of Mexico.

Renata Kolbovic and Aneta Soukup were the last Canadians to win a medal at the Games when they secured women's doubles bronze in Winnipeg in 1999 - the last time Canada hosted the Games.

Currently, Canada has two players ranked in the world's top 10 in the form of men's number six Milos Raonic and Eugenie Bouchard, who is number eight on the women's rankings.

"The tennis competition at the 2015 Pan Am Games is sure to be exciting and we look forward to cheering on our country's best athletes as they compete to win on home soil," said Minister Responsible for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, Michael Coteau.

The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games are due to take place from July 10 to 26.

Wheelchair tennis action at next year's Parapan American Games, which run from August 7 to 15, will see competitors take part in men's and women's singles and doubles competition at the University of Toronto Scarborough Tennis Centre.
