Tickets for the Opening Ceremony of the Games in downtown Toronto on July 10, which is being created by Cirque du Soleil, range from CAN$100 ($91/£55/€69) to CAN$350 (€320/£193/€241), while the Closing Ceremony tickets at the Rogers Centre on July 26 range from CAN$90 ($82/£50/€62) to CAN$200 ($183/£110/€138).

In terms of the sporting action there are more than 400 ticketed events available for the duration of the Games with prices starting at CAN$20 ($18/£11/€14), with the most expensive tickets being for the gold medal events in athletics and swimming, priced at CAN$140 ($128/£77/€97).

The average ticket will cost CAN$45 ($41/£25/€31).

"From our amazing one-night-only Opening Ceremony to gold-medal swimming to the final soccer match, the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games will be a once-in-a-lifetime event you don't want to miss," said Saäd Rafi, chief executive of Toronto 2015.

"Best of all, our tickets are priced to be affordable for families - more than 75 per cent will be $45 ($41/£25/€31) or less.

"Our Ceremonies and gold-medal event tickets will be in great demand, so we encourage everyone to plan their Games experience now."

A three-week ticket request phase, which will act as a lottery for the high-demand events, is due to open on September 15 and runs until October 6.

This will give sports and culture fans early access to request the absolute best tickets for the hottest events, claim organisers.

Ticketmaster will be in charge of selling tickets for the Games.

The firm came in for fierce criticism after fans looking to buy tickets for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games earlier this year experienced a raft of problems during the final phase of ticket sales for the Games.

The official website had to be closed down for nine days in May while the problems were rectified.

Meanwhile, the sale of the first tranche of tickets for the 2015 Rugby World Cup was delayed by two weeks in May after Ticketmaster requested more time to test its system after the problems with Glasgow 2014.

The company had also been heavily criticised during London 2012. 

But, speaking to insidethegames last week, a spokesman for Toronto 2015 insisted that they had "full confidence the public will receive the best possible service when tickets start to become available in mid-September."

Around 6,000 athletes from 41 countries are expected to take part in 36 sports at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
