May 19 - Prince Feisal, the founder of Generations For Peace, has joined the Board of the International Olympic Truce Foundation (IOTF).The Jordanian established Generations For Peace, an organisation which uses sport as a tool to promote peace in conflict zones, in 2007.
The IOTF, set up in 2000 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), supports the promotion of peace and friendship through sport.
It also promotes the idea of the Olympic truce, the ancient tradition by which athletes are allowed to pass across any necessary borders to reach the host city of that year's Olympiad.
This practise dates back to 776 BC in Olympia, when the Greek city states, which was at war, would put conflict to one side to compete at the ancient Games.
The IOTF Board is constituted of representatives of the Olympic Movement, political institutions and other key individuals in the world of peace building.
"It is a great honour for me to be appointed to serve on the board of the Olympic Truce Foundation," said Prince Feisal.
"I believe in the power of the Olympic Movement as a force for peace building and development.
"From grass roots to elite champions, sport offers a unique language for dialogue and interaction, and a powerful vehicle for integrated education and behaviour change.
"Generations For Peace...empowers volunteer leaders of youth to promote active tolerance and responsible citizenship in communities experiencing different forms of conflict.
"Our programmes operate on two levels: targeting youth leaders and adults who are influential in their communities; and children and adolescents who are the future of their communities."
Generations For Peace has worked with over 90,000 children and youngsters since it was founded.
Prince Feisal also hailed Sochi 2014, which has partnered with Generations For Peace, allowing the charity to host peace camps in the Black Sea resort in the last two years.
"This is the first time an Organising Committee is delivering concretely its legacy commitments by harnessing the power of sport for peace in the lead up to the Games," added Prince Feisal.
"This is the Olympic Truce in action."
