Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein will be conducting the History of Theatreland Walking Tour and the new Haunted Theatreland Walking Tour.

The History of Theatreland tour returns from April with a new route through the heart of the West End theatre district, Soho, Shaftesbury Avenue and Piccadilly.

The tour offers the chance to appreciate some of the finest Victorian theatres London has and the chance to learn about illustrious personalities inhabiting some of them over the years.

Meanwhile, the Haunted Theatreland Walking Tour will provide tales of betrayal, bereavement and murder on the streets of London between Covent Garden and St James.

The journey also includes stories about a ghostly clown, phantom prompter, spooky superstitions and the eerie Man in Grey.

The tours are an opportunity for members of the public to avoid the busy transport network during the most congested times during London 2012.

London's tube network will require a reduction in usage by up to 60 per cent in some of the busiest areas and transport and London 2012 officials have encouraged the public to enjoy the entertainment on offer in the city to ease congestion.

The theatre district is actually meant to be one area in the centre of London which is not particularly badly affected, unlike London Bridge, Bank and Bond Street, where many commuters are expected to travel on their way to the Olympic Park this summer.

In order to take advantage of the increased numbers of people in London during the Games this summer SOLT recently released a special travel guide for West End theatre goers to help ensure that there is minimal disruption to the capital's theatre business.

They also launched an initiative, "Don't Miss The Real Show in 2012", to make the public aware of the offers available to theatre-goers this summer.

The History of Theatreland tours also take place on April 8, June 10, June 24, July 8, August 26, while the Haunted Theatreland tours take place after the Olympic and Paralympic Games have left London, beginning on October 28.
