She broke the world record in the clean and jerk phase with a best lift of 142kg, beating the previous best of 141kg set by China's Qiu Hongmei in 2007.

Following three victories out of three yesterday, North Korea appeared to be unstoppable in weightlifting as they won a fourth gold today through Ri Su-yon.

She was level with China's Liu Feng going into the clean and jerk section of the women's 53kg event but the North Korean's effort of 118kg gave her a total of 208kg.

Liu could only manage 117kg to give her an overall score of 207kg, which was good enough only for silver.

Thailand's Supattra Kaewkhong completed the top three on 197kg.

The dominance of North Korea was eventually brought to an end when Kazakhstan's Albert Linder took gold in the men's 69kg event after setting a Universiade record of 333kg overall.

North Korea's Kim Myong-hyok finished second on 331kg while Masanori Miyamoto of Japan completed the top three on 324kg.

Elsewhere today, South Korea sealed two judo gold medals.

Lee Seung-su received two shido penalties against Russia's Aslan Lappinagov but went on to win the 81kg final regardless.

The South Korean scored a decisive waza-ari to take the victory.

Germany's Robin Gutsche and Vinicius Taranto Panini of Brazil completed the podium.

Gwak Dong-han then added another South Korean victory off a Russian opposition to win under 90kg gold.

He beat Stanislav Retinskii with a waza-ari.

Japan's Shoichiro Mukai and Azerbaijan's Firudin Dadashov took bronze.

Japan's Aimi Nouchi prevailed in the women’s under 63kg gold medal match, beating Algeria’s Amina Belkadi in convincing fashion.

The Japanese judoka scored a waza-ari to take the lead, before securing a bout winning ippon.

Russia's Valentina Kostenko and Germany's Nadja Bazynski shared the bronzes.

Barbara Chianca Timo earned Brazil's first gold medal of the Universiade after triumphing in the women's 70kg final.

The Brazilian won in a golden score period against Japan’s Sai Niizoe, having been awarded a waza-ari.

Italy's Carola Paissoni and South Korea's Kim Seong-yeon completed the podium.

South Korea also enjoyed double success in the men's and women's team poomsae taekwondo competitions this evening.

The men accumulated a total score of 7.860 to finish well in front of their closest rivals.

Chinese Taipei took silver on 7.587 while Vietnam and Iran shared the bronze medals, on 7.570 and 7.510 respectively.

South Korea's women then completed the memorable double.

They joined their male team-mates at the top of the podium by winning their respective final on 7.900.

Chinese Taipei edged Vietnam into second, despite both scoring 7.680.

The Vietnamese team dropped to bronze while China secured the second bronze medal on 7.533.

Chinese Taipei then won the third and final poomsae gold medal of the evening in the mixed pairs event.

Li Cheng-gang and Su Chia-en produced an overall score of 7.853 to finish top of the standings.

South Korea took the silver medal, narrowly behind on 7.813.

Bronze medals were shared between Vietnam and Iran, who scored 7.427 and 7.160 respectively.
