Rio 2016 bronze medallist Mira Potkonen is safely through to the final of the 60 kilograms competition at the European Boxing Confederation Women's Boxing Championships.

The Finn, also a bronze medallist at last year's World Championships in Astana, scored a unanimous points victory over England's Shona Whitwell at the Margherita Gym in Casica in Italy.

Awaiting her in the final will be Ireland's Kellie Anne Harrington.

She saw off home favourite Irma Testa by recording a comprehensive points win.

Alessia Mesiano and Roberta Bonatti did provide some delight for Italy as they both reached the final of their respective weight categories.

Mesiano is through to the final of the 57kg event after overcoming France's Mona Mestiaen on a unanimous points decision.

She will now take on Germany's Ornella Wahner as she claimed a split decision win over Croatia's Sara Beram.

Bonatti, meanwhile, scored a unanimous decision victory against the Czech Republic's Petra Lastovkova in the last four of the 48kg event.

Bulgaria's Sevda Asenova will be her opposition in the final as she claimed a comprehensive points win against Poland's Adriana Marczewska.

There was further disappointment for Italy in all three of the day's remaining categories.

Sweden's Lise Sandebjer once again plunged the home crowd into silence as she recorded a split decision win over Italy's Roberta Mostarda in the 51kg event.

Turkey's Busenaz Cakiroglu is also through to the gold medal match after she beat Bulgaria's Gabriela Dimitrova on a unanimous judges' decision.

Italy's Monica Floridia also suffered a defeat in the last four of the 69kg event as she was outclassed by Poland's Hanna Solecka, who claimed a split decision win.

Germany's Nadine Apetz is also through to the final after scoring a split decision victory over Ireland's Grainne Walsh.

Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey handed Italy another semi-final loss when she beat Assunta Canfora on a unanimous points decision in the 75kg division.

Awaiting her in the final is The Netherlands' Nouchka Fontijn, the Rio 2016 silver medallist, who overcame England's Natasha Gale on a split decision.

The finals are due to take place tomorrow.
