Russia's Alexander Lifanov and Poland's Lukasz Gutkowski won their respective groups in qualification for the men’s individual final at the International Modern Pentathlon Union Junior World Championships in Hungarian city Székesfehérvár.

Lifanov scored a total of 1,109 points in qualification group A, beating France's Jean Baptiste Mourcia and Paolo Singh to top spot.

Mourcia posted the same score, while Singh managed 1,108 points.

In qualification group B, Gutkowski prevailed with 1,100 points.

Runner-up Sherif Nazeir of Egypt finished on 1,099 points, while Russia's Serge Baranov came third with 1,098 points. 

The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday (August 13). 

Tomorrow’s action is due to see the women's final held.

The Championships are set to conclude on August 14 with the mixed relay final.
