South Korea’s Changwan Seo and Hyunseok So won the men’s relay title as action continued today at the International Modern Pentathlon Union Junior World Championships in Hungarian city Székesfehérvár.

The duo posted a total of 1,488 points to finish top of the leaderboard.

Spain’s Luis Shivel and Joan Gispert came second with 1,479 points, while Belarus' Ivan Khamtsou and Yaraslau Radziuk rounded out the podium with 1,473.

So and Seo started the laser-run 13 seconds behind leaders Andrei Zuev and Ivan Tarasov of Russia but quickly reeled them in and refused to relinquish their advantage.

They ended up winners by nine seconds from Shivel and Gispert with Khamtsou and Radziuk a further six seconds behind.

After a difficult laser-run, Zuev and Tarasov finished seventh.

Earlier, Khamtsou and Radziuk had the best fencing results as they achieved 23 wins and 13 defeats to finish ahead of Egypt’s Sherif Nazeir and Ahmed Hamed with 22 wins and 14 defeats.

Argentina’s Alexis Corradini Martinez and Manuel Armanazqui produced the quickest swimming time of 1 min 52.11sec.

The leadership equation continued to take shape during the riding and it was Zuev and Tarasov and Shivel and Gispert who managed the maximum score of 300.

However, So and Seo stayed in contention by surrendering only a single point for 299, allowing them to go into the laser-run with the ultimate prize firmly in their sights and seal victory.

Qualifying for the women's and men's individual events is scheduled to take place tomorrow and Friday (August 11) respectively.

Solo finals are then pencilled in for Saturday (August 12) for the women's event and Sunday (August 13) for the men's. 

The Championships will then conclude on August 14 with the mixed relay final.
