Italy’s Carmela Donniacuo advanced to the 64kg final ©EUBC

Italy’s Carmela Donniacuo and Denmark’s Yvonnebaek Rasmussen will contest the 64 kilogram final at the EUBC European Union Women’s Boxing Championships.

Donniacuo was awarded a bye through to the semi-final stage of the six boxer competition in Casica, with the home favourite taking on England’s Paige Murney.

The Italian boxer progressed after a closing fought contest, with the judges awarding her a split decision 3-2 victory.

Rasmussen also advanced after a tough semi-final bout, as she was awarded a 3-2 win over Joelle Seidou of Germany.

Having been beaten in the semi-finals, both Murney and Seidou will receive bronze medals.

The Netherlands’ Nouchka Fontijn and England’s Natasha Gale will meet in the women’s 75kg semi-finals.

Both fighters claimed unanimous points victories in their quarter-final ties against Ireland’s Christine Desmond and Hungary’s Petra Szatmari respectively.

Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli edged Finland’s Elina Gustafssone 3-2 to reach the last four, while Italy’s Assunta Canfora cruised to a 5-0 win over Irina Schonberger of The Netherlands.

Sevda Asenova of Bulgaria and Poland’s Adriana Marczewska won their 48kg quarter-finals unanimously to set up a showdown in the semi-finals.

The second semi-final will see the Czech Republic’s Petra Lastovkova take on home favourite Roberta Bonatti.
