Former Canadian athlete Jenna Martin-Evans is hoping to switch to bobsleigh and compete at next year's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

During her career on the track, Martin-Evans ran the 400 metres and qualified for the semi-finals at London 2012.

She was also the Canadian national champion in the 400m in 2012.

Injuries eventually forced her to retire from the track.

The attention of the 29-year-old has now turned to winter sport as she intends to represent her country as a brakeman in South Korea in February.

She has been training this summer with a group of prospects for the national bobsleigh team.

"I'm just kind of mixed in there with everyone and learning a lot," she said in a recent interview, according to Canada's LocalXpress.

"It's going really well so far, actually.

"I'm still such a newbie I don't know what the steps are after this.

"I know we have another camp in September and that will start eliminating people."

Bobsleigh pilot Kallie Humphries, the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallist, approached Martin-Evans after London 2012.

"She asked me if I was still going to pursue track," Martin-Evans said.

"She was very interested in me trying bobsleigh and to hopefully be a brakeman for her.

"I told her I was going for another four-year cycle to try to get to Rio [2016].

"I took a good six months off because of my Achilles injury and I think that rest was the absolute best thing.

"Time is going to tell where I'm going to be placed.

"The attraction is to be a Summer Olympian and a Winter Olympian."

Canada has won seven Olympic bobsleigh medals in the history, including four golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Sprinters often switch to bobsleigh as their pace is a valuable asset when pushing the sled.

American Lauryn Williams, the London 2012 4x100 metres relay gold medallist, went on to win two-woman silver at Sochi 2014 as a pusher.

It meant she joined an elite club who have won medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
