German duo Tina Lutz and Susan Beuke claimed their maiden 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championship title today on home waters.

They scored victories in both 49erFX medal races at the Kieler Yacht Club in Kiel to earn a place at the top of the podium.

It was a gusty day in Germany with several capsizes for boats across the fleets, but Lutz and Beuke were able to keep themselves upright all the way through.

"Somehow, we didn’t flip over at all," Beuke said afterwards.

"We had a very lucky day, I think."

Great Britain’s Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey took silver and another German pairing, Vicky Jurczok and Anika Loren, finished third.

In the 49er class, Britain tasted gold as Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell did enough to take the title in front of Australia’s David Gilmour and Joel Turner.

Fletcher and Bithell were joined by British pairing James Peters and Fynn Sterritt on the podium, as they finished third overall.

Italy’s Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti won the title for the Nacra 17 fleet, beating Fernando Echavarri and Tara Pacheco of Spain to gold while British duo Ben Saxton and Katie Dabson took the bronze medals.
