The agreement was signed by CPB President Mizael Conrado and Hamamatsu Mayor Yasutomo Suzuki.

Brazilian representatives have long been in touch with those in Hamamatsu, which is located 250 kilometres from Tokyo, and visited the facilities last June.

"Conversations with Hamamatsu began in 2016 and we were now able to reach an agreement," Conrado said.

"It was key in the process that Hamamatsu showed the intention to do the needed adjustments in their facilities and hotels to host our athletes.

"In the June visit, we could see high-quality structures that will certainly enable us to smoothly arrive in Japan and train towards Tokyo 2020."

Hamamatsu has an estimated population of around 790,000 people and is located 260 kilometres south-west of Tokyo.

The city also has the largest Brazilian population among Japanese cities.

At the Rio 2016, hosts Brazil finished eighth in the Paralympic Games medal table.

The country won 72 medals - 14 golds, 29 silver and 29 bronzes - the highest amount ever achieved by Brazil.

The CPB is currently developing a new strategic plan, which will determine performance goals for both the 2020 and 2024 Paralympics.  

In June, the CPB renewed its sponsorship agreement with petrochemical company Braskem.

The partnership, which was forged in 2015, has been extended until Tokyo 2020.

It came on the back of the CPB announcing the extension of a sponsorship agreement with Loterias da Caixa, the institution that oversees the country's national lottery, until Tokyo 2020.
