Ukraine's Pavlo Korostylov shot a world record on his way to winning the men's 25 metres standard pistol gold at the European Shooting Championships in Baku.

In windy conditions, Korostylov shot a world and European best of 581 points at the Olympic Shooting Range in Azerbaijan’s capital city.

"It was ever so difficult for me [because of the wind]," said Korostylov.

"I can’t yet understand that I made a world record in this weather.

"Perhaps the wind pushed me to concentrate to the right and basic issues."

Germany's Christian Reitz finished seven points behind in second place on 574 and Russia's Alexei Klimov was third on 573.

Pavlo Krepostniak capped a satisfying day for Ukraine by winning the junior 25m standard pistol final.

Shikhov was forced to settle for second on 565 points, while yesterday's 25m pistol gold medallist, Ernests Erbs from Latvia, finished third on 564.
