America's Renée Tomlin today claimed her second consecutive win at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup in the Hungarian town of Tiszaujvaros.

The 28-year-old clocked a time of 1 hour 00min 45sec to take top honours ahead of France’s Leonie Periault, who finished just one second behind.

Periault sprinted for victory with 200 metres remaining but went slightly too early and ran out of steam to allow Tomlin to take full advantage.

"This race means a lot to me - it’s where it all started some years ago and I always love to come back," Tomlin said.

"This year I felt a little bit more pressure on me, but I still executed the race the way I wanted so I’m very glad.

"This year I’ve changed my training schemes, but I think that it’s going really well now."

The Netherlands’ Maaike Caelers rounded out the podium in 1:00:51.

There was home success in the men’s final as Bence Bicsák secured his first-ever ITU World Cup podium with victory in 54min 58sec.

Bicsák, winner of his semi-final yesterday, passed Russia’s Dmitry Polyanskiy with two laps to go to run alone for the finish line.

"It’s amazing to win here in front of all these people," he said.

"I am so happy that I cannot express it.

"I worked very hard in the semi-final to get a good start position on the pontoon because here the swim is very hard.

"But I managed to do it.

"Then, on the first kilometres of the run, I was feeling very bad, but I tried to catch Dmitry.

"The fans helped me here."

Polyanskiy took the silver medal in 55:13 and fellow Russian Ilya Prasolov came third in 55:18.

The event in Tiszaujvaros was the seventh stop of 15 on this season's World Cup circuit.

The next leg is due to take place in Mérida in Mexico on August 12.
