It comes after the Organising Committee and the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) called for companies to launch a bid for eight infrastructure projects for venues due to be used at the Pan American Games.

The tender for the Athletes' Village is scheduled to be awarded on September 11, but building work at other venues, such as those for shooting and surfing, may not begin until early 2018.

All outstanding contracts were formally approved last month in a process mediated by the British Government, which is helping the Organising Committee with their preparations for the event.

It allowed Lima 2019 to launch their infrastructure programme.

This also includes two of the clusters of venues, located in Villa Maria del Triunfo and Callao, and venues for gymnastics, equestrian, shooting and surfing.

Tenders are set to be awarded for the shooting and surfing venues at the end of February, while gymnastics will be confirmed in at the end of November.

Mid-November has been targeted for the confirmation of the tenders for the two clusters, the equestrian venue and the Villa Deportiva National.

Companies interested in bidding for any of the projects, including as lead contractor, have been urged to register as soon as possible.

"The UK DIT team will be supporting the procurement of venue infrastructure on behalf of Lima 2019 to ensure competition, transparency and fairness is applied in the selection process," a DIT statement read. 

"The UK DIT team will bring international best practice and experience in successfully delivering major sporting event infrastructure to support the Lima 2019 team in setting specifications, scope definition, packaging and selection of the best value, deliverable contracts with the best fit to meet challenging requirements."

Companies involved in the bidding process include China, South Korea, Spain, Australia, France, USA and Brazil as well as Britain.

It is expected that international companies may team up with local ones to form bidding consortiums.

This comes after PASO President Neven Ilic warned last month that organisers cannot affort to miss the September deadline if they are to ensure they are ready in time for the July 2019 timeframe of the Games.

He said they have heard lots of "plans and promises", but are still yet to be convinced that genuine improvements are being made.

Venue concerns have been one of the key issues for Lima 2019 so far, with the British Government signing up as the main delivery partner back in April.

A team of experts from the UK are working closely with the Organising Committee to ensure the successful staging of the competition.

The deal is due to continue through to the end of the Games, which run from July 26 until August 11.

It will be followed by the Parapan American Games from August 23 until September 1.
