The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) confirmed today they have suspended their chief executive Tubby Reddy following allegations of sexual harassment.

Reddy has been suspended by SASCOC until August 18 while an external firm carry out an investigation into the complaint from a female employee.

Reddy has been under investigation after he allegedly sent pornographic material to female colleagues.

It is claimed that he failed to follow proper labour practice when he appointed a company to investigate SASCOC staff.

It is also believed that Reddy's relationship with SASCOC President Gideon Sam has been under pressure recently.

According to News24, South Africa's largest news website, Reddy has complained that he was spied on at work and at home and that he is being targeted by groups who want to gain control of SASCOC.

In a further twist, the female employee who had allegedly made the complaint has reportedly claimed that her email account had been hacked and she had withdrawn her complaint.

Reddy, the SASCOC's first-ever chief executive having been appointed in 2009, had been expected to travel here as part of South Africa's delegation taking part in the Commonwealth Youth Games.

But SASCOC suspended Reddy following a meeting of its Board at its headquarters in Johannesburg.

In a statement they said: "Following allegations against Mr Tubby Reddy from a staff member on sexual harassment and him subsequently declaring a dispute with the Board about unfair treatment and process on these allegations, the Board resolved the following:

"After receiving representation from Mr Tubby Reddy’s lawyer, the SASCOC Board resolved to go ahead with the suspension of Mr Reddy with effect from Thursday 20 July 2017.

"The SASCOC Board will ensure that the investigation is concluded within 30 days and concluding on the 18th of August 2017.

"By then, the investigation which led to his suspension should have been completed."

Reddy, who has been suspended on full pay, has been urged to cooperate with the investigation.

"We are challenging all the allegations against him as he denies wrongdoing‚" Reddy's lawyer Dev Maharaj said.

Reddy had led Durban's successful bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

But, having been awarded the event in September 2015, the South African city was stripped of the event in March after it failed to meet a series of financial deadlines.
