Austria's Tobias Reichetzer set up a meeting with the reigning men's foil Olympic champion as preliminary stage action continued at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Championships in Leipzig.

Reichetzer won both of his contests today to book a round of 64 clash with Italy's Rio 2016 gold medallist Daniele Garozzo at the Arena Leipzig in the German city.

The Austrian first saw off Sebastian Tirado of Puerto Rico 15-8 before defeating Juan Sebastian Unda of Mexico 15-11 to progress.

His prize is a meeting with Garozzo, top seed in the tournament.

Rio 2016 silver medallist Alexander Massialas is seeded second in Leipzig and will play Belgium's Stef Van Campenhout in the round of 64.

The Belgian secured his progression with a narrow 15-13 win over Daniel Sconzo of Colombia in round one before edging the Czech Republic's Vaclav Kundera by the same scoreline.

There was also preliminary action in the women's épée competition.

China's Sun Yiwen, a Rio 2016 bronze medallist, has been seeded first and is due to meet Saskia Van Erven Garcia of Colombia in the round of 64.

The South American received a bye in the first round but then overcame Japan's Rie Ohashi 15-11 to make it through.

Hungary's Olympic champion Emese Szász has been positioned second in the rankings.

She is scheduled to meet Venezuelan Eliana Lugo in the round of 64.

Lugo will be hoping for further success against Hungarian opposition after she defeated Szász's compatriot Kata Mihaly 15-9 earlier today.

Action concluded with the women's sabre preliminary rounds today.

Nora Garam set up an all-Hungarian clash in the round of 64 with top seed Anna Marton.

Garam will meet the 2015 World Championships bronze medallist after she dispatched Thailand's Pornsawan Ngernrungruangroj 15-7.
