K-pop group Girl's Day have been named as the latest honorary ambassadors for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

The girl group, consisting of members Minah, Sojin, Yura and Hyeri, have taken up the role which will promote the Games.

Their appointment was confirmed on Twitter by Pyeongchang 2018.

"It's an honour to represent the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics," said Sojin, according to Yonhap News.

"We accepted the role because we wanted to promote the Olympics and encourage all the people working behind the scenes."

Girl’s Day are the first K-pop group to be appointed as ambassadors for the Games.

The group have been named as friends of Pyeongchang 2018 workers, the Passion Crew, which will feature more than 87,000 people.

The Paralympic Games, between March 9 and 18, will feature 31,000 workers.

Passion Crew has been chosen as the name to contemplate Pyeongchang 2018's "Passion.Connected" slogan.

South Korean Olympic skating champions Seung-hoon Lee, Seung-hi Park and Tae-bum Mo, and American Alpine skier Lindsey Vonn are among the ambassadors for the Games.

Leading South Korean actors Kim Woo-bin and Lee Min-ho, double Olympic speed skating champion Lee Sang-hwa and opera singer Sumi Jo have all been given honorary ambassador roles, along with South Korean pop sensation Taeyang.

The Winter Olympics are due to take place from February 9 to 25.
