Brazil's reigning women's champions Eduarda Santos Lisboa and Ana Patricia Silva Ramos are among the favourites as they look to defend their International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Under-21 Beach World Championship title in Nanjing.

The duo tasted success at the 2016 edition of the global tournament in Lucerne in Switzerland and will return to the Chinese city where they won the Youth Olympic Games gold medal in 2014.

Lisboa, known as Duda, has enjoyed success on the FIVB World Tour this season with Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist Agatha Bednarczuk.

They have reached the podium four times and claimed victory on home sand at the Rio de Janeiro Open in May.

Action at the Championships will take place from tomorrow at a purpose-built stadium in Tangshan, with the Brazilians facing competition from the Russian pair they beat in the Lucerne final.

Nadezda Makroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina won gold at the Under-22 European Championships and team up with each other for age-group events while playing World Tour competitions with other partners.

Canada’s twin sisters Megan and Nicole McNamara finished third in Lucerne and will also compete in Nanjing, while Thailand's Asian Under-21 champions Pawarun Chanthawichai and Thatsarida Singchuea could also impress.

In the men's draw, Australia's Paul Burnett and Marcus Ferguson are highly fancied after winning the Asian title in March.

Germany’s Julius Thole is ranked at number 21 in the world with normal partner Lorenz Schümann, and will be one to watch as he changes team-mates to Lukas Pfretzschner for the age-group tournament.

Swiss pair Florian Breer and Yves Haussener won the Under-19 World Championship in 2014 at the age of 16 while Mexican Josue Gaston Gaxiola Leyva claimed silver in Lucerne.

He will team up with a new partner in Nanjing, Jose Angel Cardenas Valdez.

Qualification rounds will begin tomorrow with the main draw starting a day later.

Action will conclude with the finals on July 16.
