Janja Garnbret of Slovenia led home a one-two for her country in the women's lead event to clinch the gold medal at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Villars.

The 18-year-old, the reigning world champion and World Cup holder, continued her dominance of the discipline with another assured performance.

Garnbret, set to be one of Slovenia's top medal hopes when sport climbing makes its Olympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020, finished ahead of compatriot Mina Markovič.

Anak Verhoeven of Belgium won bronze medal, edging Kim Jain of South Korea.

Slovenia were denied a clean sweep of the lead competitions in Villars as Domen Škofic was beaten in the men's event by Frenchman Romain Desgranges.

Desgranges, the current world number three, proved too strong in the final for his Slovenian challenger, the current IFSC World Cup holder in the lead discipline who was forced to settle for the silver medal.

Fedir Samoilov of Ukraine took home the bronze medal as he beat Germany's Jan Hojer.

Climbers in the lead event have a short turnaround until their next competition as they head to Chamonix in France for the next stop on the calendar.

The event is due to begin with qualifications and the men's semi-final on Wednesday (July 12), before it concludes with the women's semi final and finals in both disciplines the following day.
