German duo Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude have won the women’s title at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in Gstaad.

The sixth-seeds clinched gold with a comfortable straight-sets victory at the Eisbahn Areal in the Swiss Alps village today.

Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca of Brazil, who lost in the bronze medal match at Rio 2016, were their victims as the Europeans claimed a 21-18, 22-20 win.

Swiss duo Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Heidrich became only the second women’s team from the host country to advance to the semi-finals in the 18-year history of this event.

They were beaten by Laboureur and Sude of Germany 15-21, 23-21, 20-18 in the semi-finals.

Antunes and Franca reached the gold medal match following a straight-forward 21-16, 21-15 win over fifth-seeded Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan of Canada.

The Canadians recovered from that disappointment to claim the bronze medal with a 21-15, 21-12 over their Swiss opponents.
