International Ski Federation (FIS) officials have begun testing the Olympic Results Information Service (ORIS) due to be used at next year's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Experts from the skiing governing body's IT department, ORIS and the Pyeongchang 2018 results service, together with representatives of Olympic time-keeper OMEGA and Olympic technology partner ATOS, have been testing the system in three of the FIS disciplines.

Homologation has taken place in cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined.

The ORIS, which will feature in the Alpine Skiing competitions at Pyeongchang 2018, is due to go under the microscope next week, while further testing in freestyle skiing and snowboarding will be held in July.

According to the FIS, the "reviews have focused in particular on confirming that the Olympic competition results and information services will be according to the valid international competition rules for each FIS discipline".

The ORIS system is based on a consultative process between the International Olympic Committee, the International Federations and the Organising Committee to ensure accurate and timely results at the event.

Information is geared to meet the needs of the global media broadcasting and reporting from the Games.

"The ORIS homologation tests are giving all stakeholders the assurance that every possible case is covered by the results, data and information system," said FIS IT manager Daniel Defago.

"During the intensive tests, we are stressing the system for every possible competition scenario, such as three gold medals or re-runs.

"The tests are also a great opportunity to meet the sport and the technologies entities together.

"These sessions are very important for team building, so we are most efficient and collaborative during Games-time."
