Organisers of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Snowboard World Cup in the Italian resort of Carezza in December are hoping to make the competition a "green event".

The Organising Committee, led by Andreas Obkircher, are targeting getting the World Cup recognised for its environmental work through a number of energy-saving measures.

This includes not using plastic and "supporting the arrival with public transport systems".

"Our goal is to go without plastic, reduce the waste in total, save energy and to support the arrival with public transport systems," Maria Gufler said on behalf of the Organising Committee.

They have also vowed to increase co-operation with local schools to boost promotion surrounding the event, due to be held on December 14.

The World Cup in Carezza, located in South Tyrol, is scheduled to be the first parallel giant slalom event of the 2017 to 2018 season.

It is set to be the sixth time the Italian resort has played host to the season-opening parallel giant slalom competition.

A delegation from the Organising Committee are due to meet with FIS race director Uwe Beier and other international sports officials to discuss preparations on Wednesday (June 28).

Course length and the exact schedule of the Alpine Snowboard World Cup in Carezza will also be on the agenda during the visit.

Olympic bronze medallist Alena Zavarzina won the women's parallel giant slalom crystal globe last season with a score of 3,900 points.

The men's title was secured by Bulgaria's Radoslav Yankov thanks to his total of 3,630 points.
