South Korea’s Son Wan Ho, the men’s top seed, was ousted in three sets at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Australia Open today.

Son was forced to dig deep to secure his spot in the second round yesterday and did not have it all his own way again as he exited the competition at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

He was beaten by Srikanth Kidambi of India, the world number 22, despite taking the first set 21-15.

Kidambi made a sensational recovery to win the second and third sets 21-13, 21-13 to reach the quarter-finals.

China's Shi Yuqi did not suffer the same fate as Son as the fourth seed booked his place in the last eight.

Shi scored a 21-13, 21-18 win over Japan's Kanta Tsuneyama.

Double Olympic champion Lin Dan of China also progressed with ease.

The Beijing 2008 and London 2012 gold medallist beat Indonesia's Jonatan Christie 21-14, 21-19.
