Zambia's Benny Muziyo secured a knock-out victory in his middleweight preliminary round bout on day three of action at the African Boxing Championships in Brazzaville. 

Muziyo, who won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scottish city Glasgow, defeated Mali's Traore Daouda.

With just 26 seconds remaining in the second round Muziyo, who also won bronze at the 2015 African Games which were held in Brazzaville, knocked out his opponent.

Reda Benbaziz of Algeria advanced in the lightweight competition in the Republic of  Congo's capital. 

The 23-year-old, who lost in the quarter-finals at Rio 2016, is the reigning African Games champion and his class shone through.

He claimed a comprehensive points win over Gildas Bangana of the Central African Republic.

Morocco's Abdelali Daraa won his bout in the flyweight division.

He competed at Rio 2016 but lost to Cameroon's Thomas Essomba in the first round.

Daraa proved too strong for Senegal's Pape Mamadou Sow today and claimed a unanimous victory.

In women's competition, Algeria's Soumay Tabarkokt reached the final of the light welterweight event after claiming a split decision win over Herline Sharufa Rachidi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

She will face Oumayma Belahbib of Morocco in the gold medal contest after she claimed a split decision win against Aratwa Kasemang of Botswana.

Action will continue in Brazzaville tomorrow.

The tournament was initially due to begin on May 27 but the dates were changed to ensure that the event "met the high standards demanded from such a prestigious competition".

It is the sole African qualifying event for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg and will now finish on June 25.
