American fencers triumphed in both the men's foil and women's epee competitions to add to their impressive medal tally at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau.

In the men's foil, the quartet of Miles Chamley-Watson, Race Imboden, Alexander Massialas and Gerek Meinhardt won gold after defeating Brazil 45-37 in the final.

They had earlier claimed a 45-15 win over Puerto Rico in the last four.

All four American fencers had previously won medals in the individual foil competition, with Imboden winning gold by beating Massialas in the final.

Meinhardt and Chamley-Watson shared the bronze medals, while the quartet are also the Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallists.

Brazil's Guilherme Toldo, Henrique Marques, Julien Baneux and Heitor Shimbo knocked out Mexico in the semi-finals, 45-33.

The Mexicans recovered to beat Puerto Rico 45-32 for bronze.

In the women's epee, the victorious American quartet featured Katharine Holmes, Kelley Hurley, Courtney Hurley and Anna van Brummen.

They defeated the home Canadian quartet of Leonora Mackinnon, Malinka Hoppe Montanaro, Vanessa Lacas-Warrick and Brittany Mark-Larkin in the final, 45-26.

It followed a comfortable 45-19 win over Chile in the last four.

Kelley Hurley had already been crowned as the individual champion, after beating sister Courtney in the final.

Holmes collected one of the two individual bronze medals available.

Canada beat Brazil 45-36 in their semi-final clash, with the Brazilians then beating Chile 45-24 for the bronze. 

Team events in men's epee and women's sabre will take place tomorrow.

The US now have six gold medals in a total haul of 17.
