The International Skating Union (ISU) has ratified six short track and two long track world records which were set during the 2016-17 season.

All of the marks had to be officially homologated by the governing body in accordance with their rules.

Among the newly approved short track world records is the time set in the women's 500 metres by Britain's triple world champion Elise Christie.

She clocked 42.335sec at an ISU World Cup at Salt Lake City's Olympic Oval on November 13.

Four other world records were also set at the Salt Lake City World Cup, held in the American venue which hosted action at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

South Korea's Minjeong Choi has had her world record in the women's 1,500m confirmed.

She was timed at 2min 14.354sec on November 12.

Choi, a seven-time world champion, is also part of the South Korean 3,000m relay quartet which set a world record of 4:04.22 on November 12.

Suk Hee Shim, Ji Yoo Kim and Geonhee Kim were also on the team.

Two men's world records also fell in the Utah city, with South Korean Daeheon Hwang clocking 1:20.875 in the men's 1,000m on November 12.

A day later, Dutchman Sjinkie Knegt broke the 1,500m world record by stopping the watches at 2:07.943.

The final senior world record to be confirmed in short track is for the South Korean men's 3,000m relay quartet.

Si Un Kim, Won Jun Moon, Noh Won Park and Hok Young Jung were clocked at 3:57.047 in Austrian city Innsbruck on January 29.

In long track action, the men's and women's sprint combination world records were both set at the World Sprint Speed Skating Championships in Canadian city Calgary.

Dutchman Kai Verbij was awarded 136,065 points for his efforts, calculated twice over 500m and 1,000m.

Japan's Nao Kodaira earned 146,390 points with both skaters competing on February 25 and 26.
