Energy firm ENGIE has become the 20th company to officially declare its support Paris' bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,

The French multinational, whose headquarters are to the west of Paris in La Défense in Courbevoie, have already helped develop energy and environmental aspects of Paris' technical file submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Land on one of their research and development sites in Saint-Denis is also due to be developed into a new Aquatics Centre should the bid be successful,

The latest partnership was announced following a meeting between ENGIE chief executive Isabelle Kocher and Paris co-bid leader Tony Estanguet.

It marks a "new stage" in the collaboration, which has now been "formalised around the theme of 'Sharing the Energy Revolution'".

"We are very pleased to welcome ENGIE as the newest Official Partner of Paris 2024 and to continue our successful collaboration with the group," said Estanguet.

Estanguet added: "With less than 100 days until the vote for the 2024 Host City, this partnership confirms that our project remains a very attractive prospect.

"It responds to issues that go beyond sport and showcases what France has to offer."

ENGIE employs 153,000 workers worldwide and covers electricity, gas and energy services.

It operates on five continents and in nearly 70 countries.

"It is a great pleasure for ENGIE to formalise its partnership with Paris 2024," added Kocher.

"We share the ambition of environmental excellence and sustainable development on the Paris-Seine Saint-Denis area.

"Together with Paris 2024, we are proud to support an Olympic Games project that respects the objectives of the Paris Accord."

The French capital is locked in a two-horse race with Los Angeles, although both the 2024 and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are to be awarded simultaneously by the IOC.

The host cities are due to be announced at the IOC Session in Lima on September 13.
