Stars of a Chinese reality television programme have been filmed taking part in sambo during a recent visit to Moscow.

The cast of Huayang Jiejie, a travel and reality show, were captured on camera learning the martial art during a trip to the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism in the capital city.

The programme sees cast members travel around the world with the crew currently in Russia to film the country's culture and daily life.

It is claimed the programme receives one million views per episode.

International Sambo Federation (FIAS) executive director Sergey Tabakov gave a brief outline of the sport and its history on camera.

After that students of the university held exhibition fights before the cast were then taught how to perform certain techniques and holds.

"Relations between China and Russia are very friendly, so we want to give the audience as much information about Russia as possible," said the programme's assistant director Ye Lei.

"This time we filmed an episode about sambo, because it is a Russian national sport.

"It should be noted, that only men practice martial arts in China.

"But today both men and women demonstrated sambo techniques."

The episode featuring sambo is due to be made available online within a month.

Another episode about the visit to Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism will be online shortly after.
