Former world number one Ratchanok Intanon will be aiming for home gold at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open, due to begin tomorrow.

The 22-year-old is the top seed for the Grand Prix Gold level event at Nimibutr Stadium in capital city Bangkok.

Now ranked number eight in the world, Intanon rose to the top of the pile last year after winning three Super Series tournaments in India, Singapore and Malaysia.

She suffered disappointment at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, however, going out in the last 16.

At last week's Sudirman Cup - the BWF's world mixed team competition, Intanon helped Thailand to a third-place finish.

She has been drawn to face India's Rituparna Das in the first round of the women's singles.
