Italy's Martina Caironi will seek to hone her preparations for the World Para Athletics Championships when she competes at the Paris Grand Prix, which is due to begin tomorrow.

The reigning world and Paralympic sprint champion is yet to take to the track so far this year, having only competed in the T42 long jump.

While she equalled her personal best long jump of 4.66 metres in Spain earlier this month, she will be looking to test herself in the T42 100m at Charléty Stadium in the French capital this week.

"I am so curious to see what happens in Paris," said Caironi.

"My coach told me not to expect anything.

"Often when you don't expect so much, that is the very moment when the results come."

The 27-year-old successfully defended her T42 100m title at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, while she was a silver medallist in the long jump.

"The past year was a special year," said Caironi.

"With the Paralympics, you can't use excuses - you just have to run.

"The Games are so important you don't care what happens to you - what is important is the final result, and fortunately that happened for me."

Germany's Vanessa Low triumphed in the long jump at Rio 2016, but is expected to be absent from the World Championships.

It could present Caironi with the opportunity to claim victory in the event, as well as sprint success.

Caironi broke the T42 100m world record when she achieved a time of 14.61 seconds at the 2015 World Championships in Doha.

She will be hoping for a similar performance at this year's Championships, which will take place in London's Olympic Stadium from July 14 to 23.

The event in Paris is the seventh of nine Grand Prix events taking place this year, with 250 athletes expected to take part.

South Africans Charl du Toit, Hilton Langenhoven and Dyan Buis are among the Paralympic champions set to compete, along with home favourite Nantenin Keita.
