The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) has announced the cancellation of this year's Summer Push World Championships.

The governing body confirmed that the decision had been taken due to a low number of entries.

Action had been due to take place in Oberhof in Germany between July 22 and 23.

An Organising Committee in the town was formed to run the competition alongside the German Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Federation, but will now not be required.

The first day of competition was set to take place in the city of Erfurt, with a push competition using sleds on wheels.

The second day of action was scheduled for the Oberhof ice start house.

In 2016, the event was held in Mamaia in Romania.

Participants from 11 countries took part at the Black Sea resort, with hosts Romania and Russia among the countries to win medals.

Brazilians Edson Bindilatti, Denis Parreira, Odirlei Pessoni and Rafael Souza won the bronze medals in the four-man competition, providing a rare success for the South American country in a winter sport.
