Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has been re-elected as the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) until 2020.

His position was confirmed by the BOC, after Sheikh Nasser was the sole candidate after the deadline for Presidential nominations.

Sheikh Nasser is a member of the Bahrain Royal Family and holds roles including Charity Works and Youth Affairs and also chairing the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.

He founded Bahrain–Merida Pro Cycling last year, with the team joining the International Cycling Union WorldTour.

Sheikh Nasser was present in their team car for the penultimate stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia, which drew to a close yesterday.

The Supreme Council for Youth and Sports general secretary Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has been granted a seat on the BOC board.

The BOC have stated a further seven seats on the board will be decided at their General Assembly on June 13.

A total of 12 candidates from Olympic sports federations are claimed to be vying for the posts.

This includes Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa from table tennis, Sheikh Mohammed bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa from swimming and cycling’s Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
