During its trip, activities were set up for children in the country while 96 people took part in courses run by AIBA.

This included a portable boxing ring and gym which was used during the activities.

The Year of Africa scheme is aiming to increase the number of certified coaches, referees, judges and technical staff by 250 per cent across the continent.

As part of the project, AIBA are offering 4,835 course places over the course of the year and $100,000 (£77,800/€92,000) will be donated to gyms and schools.

“The HeadsUp Truck arrival in Togo represents a symbolic moment of the Year of Africa, but a lot of the hard worl is already well under way, the positive results of which are clear to see,” AIBA President CK Wu said.

“The continent’s 54 National Federations (NFs) have been working closely together to ensure that each leg of this journey has the collective input of all the neighbouring NFs and the first courses have been filled with enthusiastic and talented coaches and officials who are ready to lead African boxing into a new era of success.”

Activities will continue tomorrow with a question and answer event before a Closing Ceremony on Sunday (May 21) and a coaches session the following day.
