Former partners Juliana Felisberta and Maria Antonelli had to battle against each other today to earn a place for hosts Brazil at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in Rio de Janeiro.

With the qualification round beginning tomorrow at the Olympic Tennis Centre in Barra de Tijuca, one spot was still up for grabs to represent Brazil in the women's competition.

It was Juliana, who won bronze at London 2012 with Larissa Franca, and her new partner Carolina Salgado who advanced as they saw off Antonelli and Carolina Horta in three sets.

Juliana and Salgado took the first 23-21, having been 17-13 down at one point, before their opponents fought back to win the next 21-19 to set up a decider.

In a tight contest, Juliana and Salgado prevailed 16-14, winning five straight points to claim the victory in the third to complete the match in 56 minutes.
