Bushido Martial Arts and Fight Gear Supply have signed on as a sponsor of Taekwondo Canada's National Championships in Calgary, it has been announced.

The company, who are the largest supplier and manufacturer of martial arts equipment in Western Canada, have partnered with the event, which runs from May 25 to 28 at the Olympic Oval.

Bushido, based in British Columbia, will have a strong presence at the competition.

They will have a booth selling their taekwondo merchandise as well as branding and advertising.

"We are pleased to have Bushido as an event sponsor at our premier national event,” said Taekwondo Canada executive director Darlene MacDonald said.

“Bushido has been investing in the local taekwondo community, has been supporting top athletes, and has also been supporting Taekwondo Canada events for a number years. 

"We will welcome over 500 athletes for this national event and Bushido’s support is a testament to their recognition of the high quality of the competition.”

Taekwondo Canada are expecting a high turnout of athletes at the competition, which also features Para and poomsae action.

The Opening Ceremony will be held at 1pm local time on May 25 before the weigh-ins are conducted later the same afternoon.

On the second day, Poomsae will be the main discipline of the championships with cadet, junior and Para categories being contested.

A variety of age groups will take to the mat on May 27 with competitors from under-5 right up over-65s set to take part in individual poomsae matches.

The same day will also see team poomsae for youth, over-30s and under-30s along with freestyle for all black belt divisions.

Proceedings will come to a close on May 28 with all colour belt divisions participating.
