The Americans, the Rio 2016 Olympic champions, were once again in emphatic form as they saw off Japan 10-6 at the Schaal Aquatic Center at the University of California, Davis.

In the first quarter, the hosts took a 2-0 lead with Melissa Seidemann scoring both goals before 19-year-old Yumi Arima scored for Japan to make it 2-1 in the early stages of the second period.

The teams shared the next four goals, handing the US a 4-3 advantage at halftime.  

However, the hosts ran away with the third period, scoring four goals to Japan’s one through Sarah Klass, Seidemann’s third goal of the night, Jewel Roemer and Ava Johnson, handing them an 8-4 lead entering the fourth quarter.

But, when Chiaki Sakanoue and Kotori Suzuki struck, Japan only trailed 6-8 with over four minutes to go.

Johnson nudged the Americans further ahead once again though and, less than two minutes later, Alexis Liebowitz completed the scoring.

“The Japanese team’s tough," said American head coach Adam Krikorian.

"Was I worried? I’m never worried in any game.

"We had a hard time holding position against them so we had to pass the ball around a lot to try to get the opening; they kept taking our opening away.

Australia claimed their third win of the tournament with a 9-5 success over Kazakhstan.

Rowie Webster continued her fine scoring form as she put three into the Kazakh net.

Keesja Gofers also scored twice while Hannah Buckling, Isobel Bishop, Amy Ridge and Tiana Sogaard Anderson all completed the scoring.

In today's third match, Canada recorded their first victory of the tournament as they triumphed 12-9 over China.

Elyse Lemay was imperious in front of goal for the Canadians as she scored four while Joelle Bekhazi added three of her own.

Michelle Caron, Shae Fournier, Gurpreet Sohi, Dominique Perreault and Verica Bakoc also made it onto the scoresheet for the North Americans.

Wang Dujuan scored three for China while Guo Ning added a brace. 

Xiong Dunhan, Deng Zewen, Nong Sanpeng and Ma Huanhuan also scored in the defeat.
