Malta's Josmond Caruana was elected as the European Small Nations' general secretary for weightlifting at a meeting in San Marino.

The official will serve the next four years in the post after being elected at a quadrennial Electoral Congress.

It adds to an impressive portfolio of positions which also includes being both President and general secretary of the Malta Weightlifting Association since 2009.

He is also a member of the European Weightlifting Federation Technical Commission, a vice-president of the European Union Weightlifting Commission and an Executive Board member of Commonwealth Weightlifting.

Caruana replaces Cyprus Weightlifting Federation President Andreas Roumbas in his European Small Nations role.

Lifters from Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and Cyprus participated in the 2016 edition of the European Small Nations Tournament in Limassol, Cyprus.

Weightlifting is not currently on the programme for the quadrennial multi-sport Games of the Small States of Europe.

Andorra, Liechtenstein, Montenegro and San Marino also participate in this event.
