Egypt enjoyed a successful final day of the African Wrestling Championships as they won three gold medals in the freestyle events in Marrakesh.

Diaaeldin Abdelmottaleb successfully defended his 125 kilograms crown as he produced a dominant performance throughout the tournament before beating Thiacka Faye of Senegal at the Complexe Zerktouni.

Adama Tangara of the Ivory Coast took home the bronze medal.

Samy Moustafa, a winner of a junior silver medal earlier on at the event in the Moroccan city, struck gold in the 74kg competition by ousting Ali Ayari of Tunisia.

The Egyptian wrestler started the final bout slowly but gradually grew into the contest and emerged on the right side of a 4-2 scoreline.

The two bronze medals in the category went to Kayis Mupompa of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mohamed Boudina of Algeria.

Mahmoud Badawi then claimed his second title of the week to deliver a third gold medal of the final day for Egypt in the 86kg weight class.

The Egyptian, who already had a junior gold to his name, defeated returning champion Mohamed Saadaoui after the Tunisian was forced to withdraw during the final through injury.

Badawi had a healthy 4-0 advantage but Saadaouti turned the match on its head by edging into a 5-4 lead.

Badawi hit back, however, and scored four consecutive points to move 8-5 in front before injury struck for Saadaoui.

Hein Van Rensburg of South Africa clinched the solitary gold medal on offer.

Senegal's Adama Diatta secured his second straight African Wrestling Championships crown as he moved up from 57kg to seal the gold medal in the 61kg event.

Diatta comfortably swept aside Ahmed Mohamed of Egypt in the final by virtue of an 11-5 victory to ensure he topped the podium once again.

Morocco had a medal to cheer in the category thanks to Otmane El Bhaja's bronze, with the other going to Guinea-Bissau's Mbunde Cumba Mbali.
