Richie Porte secured overall victory at the Tour de Romandie as Slovenia's Primoz Roglic triumphed in the individual time trial to bring the stage race to a close in Lausanne.

Porte began the 17.8 kilometre time trial with a 19 second deficit to overnight leader Simon Yates of Britain, with the Australian ending as the runner-up to the Team Sky rider on yesterday's stage.

Starting as the penultimate rider on the course, Porte looked to put pressure on Yates in the opening uphill section of the route.

The BMC Racing rider would impress throughout his ride, including on the downhill second half of the course to cross the line in 25min and 6sec.

It would prove enough to finish top of the general classification, with Yates ending 40 seconds slower than the Australian's time.

The stage win was earned by Roglic, who completed the course in 24:58.

Porte, who was runner-up for the second stage in succession, took the general classification win by 21 seconds from Yates.

The one-day Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt will be the next event contested on the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Tour.

Competition will take place in Germany tomorrow, with attention then turning to the first Grand Tour of the season, as the Giro d'Italia begins on May 5.
