France will begin their BNP Paribas World Team Cup men's title defence tomorrow when competition gets underway in Sardinia.

A superb performance saw France defeat Japan at the 2016 event in Tokyo, with Nicolas Peifer and Stephane Houdet key to the triumph in the wheelchair tennis competition.

The pair have been named among the French squad this year, with Frederic Cattaneo and Gaetan Menguy also hoping to aid the top seeds' challenge.

Britain, winners in 2015, have been named as the second seeds with Rio 2016 gold medallist Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewitt expected to provide a stern test to their opponents.

Argentina, the tournament's third seeds, will rely on Gustavo Fernandez being in the form which took him to the Australian Open title earlier this year.

Fernandez will be joined by Ezequiel Casco and Agustin Ledesma.

The Netherlands will begin as the top seeds in the women's competition, with Diede de Groot, Aniek van Koot and Michaela Spaanstra in their squad.

World number one Jiske Griffioen is absent for the Dutch team at the event.

Japan are the tournament's second seeds, with their hopes led by world number 16 Manami Tanaka.

Quad and junior events are also set to take place at the tournament, which will take place until May 7.

Action on the Italian island will take place across two venues, the Baia di Conte and the Alghero Tennis Club.
