Gold Coast 2018 will be inviting ticket requests for next year’s Commonwealth Games from 12pm AEST tomorrow when the online portal is set to be officially opened.

To celebrate the milestone, a special unveiling will be held at Kangaroo Point Cliffs in Brisbane.

Among those in attendance will be Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie and event ambassador Cameron McEvoy, an Australian double Olympic bronze medal-winning swimmer.

In a bid to make it fair for everyone, Gold Coast 2018 tickets will initially be available via a ticket request phase over a four-week period from tomorrow until May 22.

This process is standard practice at every Commonwealth Games and major global sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games and Wimbledon.

Spectators can place a ticket request at any time during the phase.

A preference for the time of day or date a ticket request will not be required initially.

After the conclusion of the phase, all unsold tickets will be released for sale on a first-come, first-served basis in July.

For any sessions that receive more tickets requests than there is availability, tickets will be awarded via a "fair and equal" draw.

The draw will be made by computer and processed randomly.

Auditing firm KPMG is assisting in reviewing controls in relation to this process.

Gold Coast 2018 launched its official ticket guide on April 4 as part of the one-year-to-go celebrations.

A total of 26 athletes, representing each of the 23 sport disciplines due to be contested at the Games, helped unveil the guide at the SkyPoint Observation Deck in Gold Coast earlier this month.

Organisers hoped the 20-day period before the opening of the request phase would allow the public time to digest the information and begin pinpointing which events they wish to attend.

The Opening Ceremony will be the highest-priced event, with category A tickets costing AUD$495 (£291/$373/€348), while the cheapest adult ticket is AUD$100 (£59/$75/€70).

A Closing Ceremony ticket will range from AUD$70 (£41/$53/€49) to AUD$350 (£206/$264/€246) for an adult, depending on the category chosen.

Children’s tickets are available for those under the age of 16 from AUD$10 (£6/$8/€7), half the price of adult tickets in the lowest category at AUD$20 (£12/$15/€14).

Athletics will start at AUD$20 (£12/$15/€14) for adults and rise to AUD$150 (£88/$113/€106) for the most in-demand finals, with swimming set to begin at AUD$40 (£24/$30/€28) and peak at AUD$200 (£118/$151/€141).

Track cycling tickets will cost from AUD$50 (£29/$38/€35) for adults, while both rugby sevens and beach volleyball prices begin at AUD$30 (£18/$23/€21).

There is due to be 278 competition sessions in total, with four free events taking place during the Games - the race walk, marathon, cycling time trial and road races.

The ticket prices include all fees and free public transport on event days within the South East Queensland TransLink transport network, along with the Cairns TransLink and Townsville qconnect bus networks.

Tickets are available for people with accessibility requirements at all events.

Gold Coast 2018 have affiliated themselves to the Queensland Companion Card programme, providing accessible seating with a complimentary companion ticket.

Infants under the age of two are granted free entry, provided they do not occupy a seat.

Gold Coast 2018 claim they expect 1.5 million spectators to watch action during the 12-day Games, due to take place from April 4 to 15.

The Games will feature 18 sports and the largest-ever integrated Para-sport programme, with 6,600 athletes from 70 nations and territories set to take part.
