World Karate Federation (WKF) Executive Committee member Souleymane Gaye has been nominated by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) as their new technical delegate.

The Senegalese official will now be in charge of overseeing the technical aspects of karate competitions at major international events for athletes at university level.

Gaye is set to serve a four-year term in the role, with the WKF stating his 40 years of experience in the sport will aid FISU.

During his career, Gaye has acted as Senegalese National Olympic Vice President and held the same role at the All Africa Karate Federation (UFAK).

Gaye is currently the assistant general treasurer at the WKF, as well as chairing their Athletes Entourage Commission.

He will look to ensure the smooth running of key karate competitions, including the World University Championships.

The sport made its debut at the event back in 1998.

Gaye will be the technical delegate for the next edition of the FISU World University Karate Championships.

The competition will take in place in 2018, with the city of Kobe in Japan acting at the host.
