Top seed Lin Dan crashed out of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Masters today after suffering a semi-final defeat to fellow home competitor Qiao Bin at the Olympic Sports Center in Changzhou.

The two-time Olympic and five-time world champion lost 16-21, 21-15, 14-21 to his third-seeded opponent, who will go onto face compatriot Tian Houwei in the final.

It ends Lin’s bid for a seventh title at the event having also triumphed in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2016.

Second seed Tian overcame countryman Huang Yuxiang 21-18, 17-21, 21-6 to ensure his progression.

In the women’s singles competition, second seed Aya Ohori of Japan beat China’s Gao Fangjie 21-17, 21-13 to reach the final.

Standing between her and the title is compatriot Saena Kawakami, who also defeated Chinese opposition in the shape of Cai Yanyan.

The fifth seed came from behind to triumph 18-21, 21-11, 21-8.

Action in Changzhou is due to conclude tomorrow.
