Gold Coast 2018 will celebrate the one year to go milestone for the Commonwealth Games with a beachside event on April 4.

The community celebration is due to take place on Surfers Paradise Beach, with proceedings set to get underway at 6pm local time.

Several live acts will be part of the celebrations, including Australian chart toppers Sheppard and local artists Sunset City.

Gold Coast 2018 mascot Borobi is also set to be present at the event as organisers continue the countdown to the Games.

The sports which will feature at next year’s Games will be highlighted in what is billed as a "gravity defying light projection show" which will illuminate the sky.

Gold Coast 2018 have stated that the event will be free to attend, with the public encouraged to attend the celebration.

They will be able to participate in a variety of Commonwealth Games sports, which will be part of a host of activities in the evening.

Weightlifting, squad, netball and basketball demonstrations are set to be held.

The event will take place before the World Press Briefing, which is scheduled to take place from April 5 to 7.

Gold Coast 2018 is due to take place from April 4 to 15 next year.
